From Bouffants to Victory Rolls! 4 Vintage Hairstyles You Can Do Yourself

El Mai Style Me Vintage - BellaNaija - April2013005More often than not, hairstyles are recycled! So sometimes when searching for new hairstyles the best place to look is in the past. Hair plays a huge part in our overall appearance and sometimes it’s best to transform your curls, twists and updos into a classy vintage look. You don’t have to be a movie buff or a 50′s film star to attempt vintage hairstyles that are inspiring and make a statement. Here are a few hairstyles you can try to get that vintage look.
First off, here are some tools you will need;
1. Smoothing lotion for frizz/fly away hair and flexibility
2. Bobby pins to keep hair in place
3. Hair spray from light hold
4. A smoothing brush

How to get this hairstyle
Step 1: Section the part you want to roll up. You can see the image above for directions.
Step 2: Apply a smoothing lotion of choice.
Step 3: Back comb hair; this is also known as teasing (It is easier to achieve rolls if hair has some texture), alternatively you can pre curl with tongs/straighter or rollers)
Step 4: Roll to your desired style and pin it up with bobby pins.
Top Tip: It is easier to achieve rolls if hair has some texture and curls (i.e; when it has been already set).
