Abuja Chief Judge advocates bail for robbery suspects

The Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Ishaq Bello, on Thursday urged judges to grant bail to robbery suspects and also soften bail conditions when possible.
Mr. Bello stated this while freeing 24 inmates on health and age grounds from the Kuje Prisons.
Among the inmates discharged by the CJ on the grounds of age was Abubakar Bello, a retired police officer, who had been in detention since 1999 on a life sentence for culpable homicide.
Mr. Bello said there was a panel of judges set to look into some cases of the inmates in order to accelerate hearing of their cases.

Buhari cancels visit to Cross River for groundbreaking of 260km highway

The proposed visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Cross River State for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 260km superhighway has been cancelled.


A statement by Christian Ita, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, confirmed the cancellation.


It stated that the decision to postpone the ceremony was communicated to the governor in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

NDLEA arrests bureau de change operator, others for swallowing N32 million

Six members of a suspected money laundering syndicate that specializes in swallowing dollars were today arrested at the Excel Oriental Hotel, along Airport Road in Lagos by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for allegedly swallowing US$156,000 (about N32 million) meant for export to Brazil.

In a statement released today, NDLEA said illicit exportation of currency by ingestion is a new trend in by-passing anti-money laundering operatives.

EFCC Declares MD of Saraki's Company Wanted

Kennedy Izuagbe, a former director of Societe Generale Bank Nigeria Plc and managing director of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited, a company owned by Bukola Saraki, has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to  EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, Izuagbe (45) who is being investigated in a case of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of over N3.6 billion
