Mbaka: Priest, Politician Or Renegade? by Reuben Abati

This writeup hit the nail on the head but may not go down well with some fanatics....but who cares? The truth must be told as it is!

''Catholic priests in Nigeria have always captured the public imagination, some of them have served in government positions, some were prominent in the fight and struggle for democracy, some of them have proved their mettle as poets, teachers, musicians, social critics, and public affairs commentators, but Rev. Fr. Ejike Camillus Anthony Ebenezer Mbaka is a cut above the rest, not necessarily in terms of intellect or persona, but in terms of how he has been able to use the pulpit to acquire a rock star status.

It is therefore not surprising that everything about him is

Just In: Supreme Court declared Ikpeazu winner Abia State Guber

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State as the winner of the April 11 2015 gubernatorial election.

The judges declared that he has the highest number of lawful votes cast

Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the April 11 governorship election, challenged the judgment of the appeal court declaring Alex Otti, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as winner of the poll.

Ikpeazu, through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), asked the court overturn the judgment because the appeal court erred by declaring Otti winner in an election in which he scored a fewer votes than he did.
Olanipekun argued that the APGA candidate should not take victory in an election he claimed was marred by corrupt practices.

But Otti, through Akin Olujimi (SAN), prayed the court to strike
out Ikpeazu’s appeal for lacking in merit.

He argued that Otti won in 14 out of 17 local governments areas in Abia state before “some PDP people hijacked the election”.

“I pray your lordships to dismiss the appeal; it has no merit,” he said. But the apex court upheld Ikpeazu’s election, stating that his appeal challenging the decision of the appeal court had merit and was allowed.

Buhari Insists There Will Be Ministers Without Portfolio

It is now confirmed that the screening and confirmation of the ministers has been concluded.

This is because the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has handed over the final list of ministers who scaled through the confirmation process.

During the meeting in the Presidential Villa, the President again explained that the Federal Government might not be able to fund all the existing ministries, given the unavailability of funds.

President Buhari emphasized that his administration would not have 36 ministries because of the economic downturn.

Recieving the list of 36 ministerial nominees confirmed by the Senate from Dr Bukola Saraki, he commended the Senate for a job well done, especially as the National Assembly passed all the names he submitted.

Telling his critics that they cannot stop him from telling the country the truth, he insisted that some of the ministers would stay without portfolio following an economy that has been battered.

The Senate President himself acknowledged the economic challenges facing the country and said that the issue of portfolios should not be trivialized.

There have been expectations that President Buhari would assign portfolios to his ministers during the week as a source from the Presidency said that it is most likely that the President finalises all plans on the list and might make final pronouncement on the matter.

The source also said that the list of ministers which has gone viral on the web should be disregarded as those who published those names and portfolios were merely making guesses.
