Today, the police said they have commenced investigations into the circumstances that led to the shooting of students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK). It is would be recalled that Monday students launched protest against lack of water.

Today, students’ union leaders headed by Ahmed Jibril of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), conducted a protest against the killing, demanding to know who directed the deployment of soldiers to the scene of the peaceful protest.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Michael Ada disclosed that the police have commenced investigation into what he called “the circumstance that led to the killing of the students”, although he said police report showed that some protesters on that day had hurled stones at the troop of soldiers deployed to quell the protest.
He said the police cannot say whether there was shooting, although he confirmed that two students were killed during the protest. He said the police have invited the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Shamsudeen Amali, the Chief Security Officer, Mr. John Aboh, and some students to make statements that will aid the investigation by the police team of detectives. He said the police will have to do a report from the investigation, to send to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
“Police action on the shooting allegation, the killing, will depend on the advice of the DPP”, he said.
But the university spokesman, Jamil Zakari revealed that he was not aware of any police invitation of his boss. He said the VC had travelled and returned from Lafia where he presented the report of the incident of that Monday to the state deputy governor, Dameshi Barau Luka – “but I am not aware of any police invitation on my boss.”
Equally, the Student Union Government (SUG) leader of the university, Comrade Rabiu Omame Tijani said he was not aware if the police commenced investigation into the killing.
