Regina Askia remembers home!
Hazel-eyed former beauty queen cum actress, Regina Askia has not forgotten the good old days of her reign as one of the ‘most sought after ’ actresses in Nigeria in the 90s.
The mother of three who relocated to the United States with her husband several years ago took to her Facebook page during the week to reminisce on her past accomplishments.
Regina who trained and now works as a nurse in the United States is looking forward to reopening her day care over there.
Writing on her facebook page, she expressed her fustration each time she tries to recount her story to some of her American friends who wouldn’t believe her.
“I told someone I was ” Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria” more than 20 yrs ago and they said …Yes Regina, ….I showed photos of my VGC home and the small swimming pool I had up in the back for my 7 y/o ……they say you worked here ? I said no that’s was my home and that was my driver, my daughter’s nanny and the other young woman in the pic was the maid……., they say alright Regina……when c…onvo begins on my work on television back home….I get looks.”
The medical term for people who talk about seemingly fantastic stuff….is ” Delusions of Grandeur”. My story above is not typical for a majority of the African American females so I must be some kind of afflicted(speaking of which am I African American female or an African immigrant ….believe me the difference is like night and day….”
“When I talk excitedly about reopening my day care and all the other exciting opportunities I embrace ….I get comments like all this is so dizzying what is wrong with you….When I muse about getting that lifestyle back they say ” Good luck with that aRegina relocated to the US several years ago, after she dumped her acting career to become a wife, mother and a registered nurse.
Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan Sick Again, In Europe For Treatment
According to SaharaReporters, Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is sick again and is shuttling between Spain and Germany in search of treatment.
A source also told SaharaReporters that the First Lady was also contemplating receiving medical treatment from a US hospital.Mrs. Jonathan’s renewed health woes have accounted for her absence from several official events in Abuja and her home state of Bayelsa State over the last few days.
A few days ago, Mrs. Jonathan made a quiet exit from Abuja en route to France where she was to allegedly receive some unspecified award. However, a source within the Presidency told SaharaReporters that Mrs. Jonathan’s trip to France was a ploy to enable her to shop for new doctors in Europe for her deteriorating health.
A source disclosed that she left France for Spain. The same source disclosed that the First Lady was considering being moved to a US hospital today. However, a source in the US who is close to the First Family told SaharaReporters that he was “not heard from the first lady regarding her trip to the US.”
Ayo Osinlu, a spokesman of the First Lady, told SaharaReporters that Mrs. Jonathan was in Europe in order to care for an ailing elderly woman who helped raise the First Lady. He failed to disclose the specific European nation where Mrs. Jonathan’s foster mother is hospitalized.
During Mrs. Jonathan’s first extended medical sojourn in Germany, Mr. Osinlu had misled reporters by declaring that the First Lady was merely vacationing abroad after what he described as a series of grueling official functions, including the hosting of a conference of African First Ladies.
Mrs. Jonathan was noticeably absent from a Friday church service organized at the presidential villa yesterday as part of Easter celebrations. She was also missing at another key event where her Africa First Ladies Peace Mission donated relief material to the war-torn country of Mali. An aide of the First Lady
reported that a minister, Ms. Jumoke Akinjide, represented Mrs. Jonathan at the event where relief material was donated to Mali.
During the church service at the Presidential Villa, President Jonathan was flanked by his elderly mother, Eunice Jonathan, as well as Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke and Ndudi Elumelu, a member of the House of Representatives indicted for corruption in power sector projects. Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who has been romantically linked to Mr. Jonathan, wore a large diamond ring at the church service.
One of the last times Mrs. Jonathan was seen in public was on her return from an official visit to Cote d’Ivoire on March 2, 2013. She later made a brief visit to Lagos where she attended a dinner organized for Nollywood stars. Afterwards, she was sighted in Paris where she received the “Global Women Leader for Peace Award 2013.” Since receiving the award on March 17, the First Lady has not been seen in any official photos released from the Presidency.
Her trip to Paris coincided with her husband’s official visit to Equatorial Guinea. Mr. Jonathan was accompanied on that official visit by two female ministers, Stella Oduah of Aviation and Ms. Diezani of Petroleum.
A source in Abuja said Mrs. Jonathan had not been seen in public for close to a week and half, including during a breakfast meeting with the members of the House of Representatives led by Leo Ogor on March 21, 2013.
A few weeks ago, Mrs. Jonathan was at the center of an obscene event where she loquaciously celebrated her ostensible “resurrection from the dead” after dying for more than a week. Some 5,000 guests attended the event at the villa which was televised live, with Pastor Oritsejafor presiding. At the event, Mrs. Jonathan claimed to have undergone several surgeries during her medical sojourn in Germany.
The extended medical visit, which was first reported by Saharareporters, cost Nigeria close to 5 million Euros in medical expenses. Mrs. Jonathan’s aides had initially passed off her medical trip as a vacation. On her return from Germany, Mrs. Jonathan had also denied ever going for medical treatment.
Saharareporters contacted several presidential aides seeking information about Mrs. Jonathan’s whereabouts, but they failed to return our reporters’ phone calls and text messages.
Tuface’s controversial wedding car gifts
Comments »
There was so much hype around the wedding of African Queen exponent, Tuface Idibia to his heartthrob, Annie. The wedding, which kicked off with traditional engagement held in Akwa Ibom State, ending up with the exchange of vows at the famous Jumeirah Beach Resort, Dubai, has been the talk-of-the-town. Indeed, from the small towns to the big cities across the continent of Africa, the Idibia wedding dominated discussions.
On the social media, pictures and gist from the wedding received likes, re-tweets and thousands of comments. Without a doubt, the consternation of stars at the wedding got many dreaming of stardom, it made lots of youngsters wishing they had talent that would make them as famous as the bridegroom. Just as the wedding generated never-before-seen adulation of a Nigerian celebrity, it also has created a major challenge for Tuface, who until now was regarded as the star of the masses.
Much unlike some of his contemporaries who don’t hide their love for the champagne life, Tubaba, as he is fondly called, never failed to criticize the people in power for the fate of the less privileged. His monster hit, E be Like Say is a favorite of fans because of how he took a swipe at government in the song. Many would have vowed that though the Benue-born singer belongs to the money and power obsessed world of showbiz, he is not the one to sell out to people in the corridors of power.
Perhaps, this explains why he displayed a short-lived reluctance in accepting the Toyota Prado SUV gift from Governor Godswill Akpabio. His wife, Annie received the car along with a N3 million cheque to sponsor her family to Dubai. Just as the dust caused by Tuface’s new look on government spending was settling, word came in from the UAE that he was again given a $46,000 Chevrolet Corvette by the Senate President, David Mark.
The spokesperson to the country’s No. 3 man, Kola Ologbodiyan has since distanced his principal from the controversial gift, and those who know Mark said he is not given to such extravagance. But time will tell who exactly gave Tuface the posh car.
Though, Tuface has made himself and lots of his fans happy by tying the nuptial knot, he just might have lost ardent followers whom once held him up as the humane, humble artiste who prefers to dine with the masses than the oppressive bourgeois.

Tuface and Annie wed in Dubai
By Ezeh Chibuoke
The much talked about wedding of Nigeria’s iconic artiste, Innocent Ujah Idibia (aka Tuface) to his love of many years, Annie in Dubai was reportedly a huge success. The ceremony which was held at the beachside at the famous 5-Star Jumeirah Beach Resort in Dubai, was a highly emotional one. Everything was well set and celebrities were also on hand in their large numbers to make the day a beautiful one for the couple.
The bride was walked down the aisle by her father. She looked dashing in her cream-white wedding dress with a stunning long train. She clutched closely her rose bouquet. Red was the theme colour for the ceremony and there were roses all around the venue. Following the black and red invitations, most the guests arrived the event in black and red outfits.
Popular artist, Banky W was also on hand to thrill guests with his acts. It was very emotional with many guests shedding a tear or two. Popular faces at the event included Rita Dominic, Kate Henshaw, Susan Peters, Uti Nwachukwu, Mike Ezuruonye, Ini Edo, Don Jazzy, KC Presh, etc.
The journey to Dubai, which plays venue to the iconic Tuface (Innocent Ujah Idibia) and his pretty bride Annie Macaulay today, started many years ago. The journey of the wedding of the year began like a joke in Even Ezra Studio where Tuface bumped into Annie. She was just fifteen. There were friends for a long time.
Maybe they did steal kisses and do the ‘unmentionable’ while they were friends but officially they declared they were dating when African Queen video was shot in 2004.

By Ezeh Chibuoke
Big and sexy, Eniola Badmus, popularly known as Gbogbo Bigz Girls, came into the limelight in Funke Akindele’s film, Jenifa. And since then, she has not looked back.
In this interview with The Entertainer, she talked about her career and other issues. Excerpts:
How did you come into acting?
I have been around since 1999, I just walked into an audition centre and I was chosen.
How has it been?
It’s been a whole lot of challenges because at first it was not easy, but we glorify the name of the Lord.
What are you doing presently?
Currently, I am working on my profile, to look inwards and move into the corporate world, do some corporate shows or probably get an endorsement.
You shot into the limelight with the bad girl character in the films, jenifa and Omo Gheto; are you that bad a person?
No, I am a very simple person, I m a cool babe.
You once told me that after your university you just walked into an audition session and got a role, were you harassed sexually as being claimed by some people?
There is no industry where there is no sexual harassment because if it did not happen to you, you will not have the gut to say ‘wow! I have come a long way’.
So, it happened to you?
Obviously, It happened to me so there is no big deal about it. The fact remains that I must be harassed sexually because I am sexy and big and I know it. So, it’s bound to happen to anybody but the way you handle it matters.
How sexy are you?
That’s personal. I don’t want to go into that.
Where did you grow up?
My growing up was good and wonderful. I have wonderful parents who wanted the best for me that’s why I studied up to Masters degree level.
As a sexy person, how do you cope with male admirers?
I am very, very comfortable with guys because I have a lot of them as friends. I like to be in the midst of guys, I love them.
How is your love life, are you into any relationship?
My love life is cool and my relationship is private too.
How was your first sexual experience?
Aha, that is still private.
Do you enjoy sex?
That is rotten; I can’t talk about that too.
What do you like most about your body?
I like myself, I like my body, at times I think I’m the only person created like this because I’m not only big, I’m also sexy.
When are you getting married?
Soon, very soon because I am in my 30s and I only need just three years to have my two babies.
Which part of your body do you protect more?
I protect every part of my body because my body is a temple of God, which must not be exposed.
Do you use a special bra?
So, you want to know my bra size? Okay, I will tell you. I wear 38 Triple D.
Which colour of bra do you prefer?
No, no, I won’t answer that, that is too confidential.
How do you relate with the opposite sex?
I relate with them normally.
Which project are you working on right now?
I am working, working, working. My fans should just keep their fingers crossed.
What bad things have you done that you regret?
I have done bad, bad, bad things even worse but now I am a changed person

Nollywood star, Ngozi Nwosu, discharged from hospital
By Ezeh Chibuoke
Ailing popular actress, Ngozi Nwosu, of Fuji House of Commotion, has been discharged from a London hospital. She recently flew to the United Kingdom to have a kidney transplant, and according to sources, she has bounced back to good health after surgery.
Although, details of her return to the country still remain sketchy, the pictures she sent showed she has dramatically transformed from her emaciated look to good health. For some time now, the Fuji House of Commotion star, who plays a troublesome character called Peace, had been a shadow of her old self as she continued to emaciate following her battle with kidney-related ailment.
Many of her friends in the entertainment industry did all they could to help raise money for her treatment, but their effort were not good enough until Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, came to her rescue. The governor donated N4.5 million after reading of her ailment in a publication. Her friends and corporate organizations raised another N2 million.

Happy Easter celebration
Christians the world over today celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Easter is unarguably the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. It is usually observed at the end of Lent, a period of 40 days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
Christ’s death and subsequent resurrection reconciled mankind to God. His coming would have been in vain if He did not die and resurrect from the dead. His victory over death is a victory for Christendom. In Nigeria, the Christian faithful will expectedly commemorate the feast with masses and prayers in churches. They will also partake in the usual eating and drinking as well as other forms of merriment associated with this important Christian feast.
While Christ’s resurrection is being marked with great pomp and revelry, the Christian faithful should not lose sight of its overall spiritual significance. Beyond the culinary pleasures associated with the feast, let all Christians remember the sacrifice embedded in Christ leaving His exalted heavenly abode to come and die for the sins of mankind.
That is the significance of the feast. The import of Christ’s humility in accepting to die for the sins of others on the Cross of Calvary should ever remain fresh in the psyche of all Christians. Easter is also a period of self-sacrifice, self-abnegation, love and forgiveness. As Christ redeemed mankind from eternal damnation, so should all Christians strive to be Christ-like in relating with other people. They should let Christian ethics, as enunciated in the teachings of Christ, be the touchstone of their daily living. We call on all Christians to live the life of Christ during the Easter season and thereafter.
They should emulate Christ and show compassion to their fellow human beings, especially the less privileged, the aged, the weak and the poor. They should use the occasion to visit the sick, those in prison as well as the needy. Christians should use the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ in their relationship with their fellow Christians as well as people of other faiths.
The Christian life is a call to service and sacrifice even if it entails paying the supreme sacrifice for the sake of others. Let our leaders use this period to demonstrate the teachings of Christ. Christians in positions of leadership should, like Christ, show compassion, love and care for those they swore to serve. As Christ washed the feet of his disciples and attended to their daily needs, so should our leaders attend to the needs of those they lead. In other words, our leaders should lead by example, and not by mere precepts. They should be exemplary in all that they do. We use this occasion to call on all political leaders, irrespective of their creed, to rule with the fear of God.
They should see their position as a call to service to God and humanity. They should not use their offices to amass wealth or deprive the masses of the goodies which governance is expected to bestow on them. It is regrettable that we have not seen much of Christ’s examples in many of our leaders. Some of these leaders treat the citizenry with contempt and condescension. Some are more interested in the perks and perquisites of office than how to better the lot of the people. This Easter comes at a most trying period for Nigeria.
General insecurity has become the order of the day in the country. Recent Easter festivities were celebrated amidst fear of bombing of Christian places of worship in some parts of Northern Nigeria as a result of the festering Boko Haram insurgency. The current celebration is not an exception. We call on all the people perpetrating such violence in the country to have a change of heart and desist from criminality.
They should bear in mind that no country achieves the desired level of human and economic development under a charged and tension-soaked atmosphere as we have presently. Let all insurgents in the country use this occasion to lay down their arms and embrace peace and dialogue, which is the best way to settle whatever grievances they have against the state. We wish all Christian faithful a happy Easter celebration.

WHY TONTO DIKEH MUST BE STOPPED?
I have watched with patient annoyance, I have listen with patient distress, to the sights and sounds of our dear actress turn singer Tonto Dikeh. Like many others, I chose not to talk about her but I was forced to know how wrong I was for keeping silent by the words of Alibaba and OJB, two eminent personalities that means a lot to the entertainment industry.
Alibaba once tweeted “Playing a song of an artiste that you know is not good enough is no encouragement you are spoiling the market”, I don’t know what he had in mind. In an online interview with OJB by the crew of Information Nigeria, he said
Foremost, I must say I admire Tonto Dikeh’s confidence and doggedness, but to what avail is it when used in a wrong way. A cutlass is a good tool in the hand of a farmer, without which we cannot get food to it, but that same cutlass can kill! Despite her confidence there should be substance. Is music so hard to learn that she cannot even get average in a year?
Tonto Dikeh has a well publicised relationship with one of Africa’s best music producers, DON JAZZY. She once took to twitter to say she was deflowered by DON JAZZY and he replied saying “Me wey I still be V”.I don’t care about what they had together, my point is this, she enjoys a very good relationship with Don Jazzy, making it easy for her to have approached DON Jazzy if she truly wanted to make some good music. My opinion is this, it is either Don Jazzy already told her she cannot sing or she personally knows she can’t and decides not to talk about it to Don Jazzy.
Many upcoming artistes out there have seen their career rescinded due to annoying words from, DJs, Media personnel and the likes and yet they make music that are 10 times better than that of Tonto Dikeh. The only difference is that she was a star before she started singing making it is obvious that all we worship in the entertainment industry is money and fame not True talent and ability.
If a lady with the world at her feet and the cream of the industry at her beck and call, comes up with a song as poor as “HI” (Auto tune on a false tone (falsetto), how woeful?) and we accepted it, While there are several up and coming acts out there that can make music has good as that of Wizkid (I have met a lot that are better) still roaming the streets.
This makes me wonder if Nigerian music has a body in place to monitor the type of music produced and released to the market. I am not against Tonto Dikeh singing, I am against her singing NONSENSE! If she can learn to sing well I’d be the first to clap for her once it is good music.

Rihanna tells Beyonce to bow down as she's named most influential pop star
Rihanna was just named UK's most influential pop star ahead of Beyonce, who came in second, and in celebration of that, the Barbados beauty shaded the heck out of Beyonce. She posted the news on her instagram page then basically told Beyonce to bow down, bitch. LMAO. You're a superstar, Rihanna...but Beyonce is a legend! :-). See more after the cut...
President Jonathan's 2013 Easter Message to the Nation
Dear Compatriots,
I greet and felicitate with you all as we celebrate Easter which commemorates the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ after his redemptive self-sacrifice for the eternal salvation of mankind.
Irrespective of our religion or faith, all holidays provide us with a fresh opportunity to establish stronger bonds with our family, friends and all those around us for more enduring, harmonious and beneficial relationships.
As we celebrate this year’s Easter therefore, I urge all Nigerians to rededicate themselves to living in peace and oneness with all members of their communities no matter their ethnicity, religious beliefs or places of origin.
By now, it ought to be an accepted fact amongst us that our immense potential for greatness in the comity of nations derives in the main from our collective strength as a country of close to 170 million people and the acclaimed richness of our diverse human resources and natural endowments.
It follows, therefore, that to successfully achieve our vision of becoming one of the most dominant nations on the global stage in the shortest possible time, we must stay together as a people and continue to effectively resist by all possible means, the evil machinations of global terrorists and their misguided domestic accomplices who seek to provoke turmoil, hatred and harmful divisions among us.
I assure all Nigerians that our security agencies, armed forces and I will continue to fully discharge our constitutional responsibilities for protecting the unity and territorial integrity of this country with all the powers and forces at our disposal.
We must have peace, security and stability to effectively implement our agenda for national transformation in all parts of the country and we shall continue to work ceaselessly to re-establish the prerequisite conditions for nationwide progress and development.
For your part, dear countrymen and women, I urge you to continue to exhibit restraint and understanding in the face of seeming provocations. Those who mindlessly and indiscriminately attack churches, schools, health workers, motor-parks, banks and ordinary road users must be seen as they truly are: the brainwashed pawns of international terrorism.
They do not represent any true religion or section of the country and we must never play into their hands by succumbing to their nefarious ploys to incite religious, ethnic hatred and division among us.
It is my hope and prayer that as we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, his lessons of self-sacrifice, brotherly love, placing others before self, tolerance, obedience, respect for lawful authorities, dutifulness, diligence, honesty, justice and fairness to all will take firmer root in our beloved country and help us to overcome present challenges and build the more peaceful, secure, united, progressive and prosperous nation of our dreams.
I wish you all happy Easter celebrations.

Was This Beautiful Lady Assassinated Or What?
When GBB broke the news yesterday of the death of a young lady by name Eghobor Omozele, the circumstances behind her death was not so clear then. Emerging report has it that contrary to our initial post, she is actually a staff of the Nigeria Security and Defence Corps.. She is a graduate and was shot in cold blood under unclear circumstances.. As can be seen from these exclusive pictures sent to us,the first showed her in her uniform, the second picture showed her in a pool of blood after she was dead. The larger picture was when she was alive. Most of her friends who spoke to GBB believe she was assassinated contrary to the robbery report being peddled around. She was shot along the Auchi /Benin road on Tuesday..The question remains, who shot beautiful Omoze and for what reason?..

Topic of the day: Men of God marrying Men of God
Like I always say, I have nothing against homosexuals. People's sexual orientation is their business as long as they do not disturb me with it...but if you're a Man of God, someone who knows God and the scripture, someone who should lead people to the right path in life, is it okay to be shacking up with other men, and doing it openly?
Read the last sentence on the intro above. It says - Rev. Jones-Wade (pictured above on the right) is married to First Gentleman, Job Jones-Wade...they reside in the DC area. a'fi First Gentleman no'o! Lol. The guy on the left is openly gay Nigerian pastor Rowland Jide Macaulay. What do you guys think of Men of God marrying men?

We Have a New Pope: Cardinal Bergoglio is Francis I
There was white smoke over Rome after dark fell there, and bells were tolling. After just a little more than a day, a new Pope had been chosen, on the fifth ballot. An hour of uncertainty passed, then a French cardinal came out and announced, in Latin, the name this Pope was leaving behind: Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, the Archbishop of Buenos Aires and a Jesuit. He got to pick a new name; John Paul I, the Pope of thirty-three days, chose his as a symbol of combing the qualities of Paul VI and John XXII. So it might matter a good deal that Bergoglio chose Francis, evoking the saint of Assisi and his commitment to the poor. He will be the first Pope with this name. If that is a symbol that will have to be proven out, the selection of a Pope from Latin America is a more immediate one. It affirms the Church’s transformation, and may give it better footing in the world, if not a grasp of it.
Pope Francis I is seventy-six. He reportedly came in second place when Benedict XVI was elected. One of the first details mentioned after his name became known was that he takes public transformation. As with kings we like to imagine posts in disguise, walking in dark streets. That is not so likely, whatever Francis's preferences: when he came out, after a moment in which the curtain on the balcony overlooking the square seemed to quiver, he smiled in a way that made him hard to forget. It made him seem, really, like someone who had been known to the crowd for a long time.
The white smoke, by the way, is from the burning of the ballots. So is the black smoke, but different chemicals are shaken on top of each, as they are put in a special oven, in one of the gestures in which Vatican officials assume the aspect of alchemists. This morning, as the Times reported, gave out the recipe this morning: for white and a Pope, add potassium chlorate, milk sugar, and pine rosin. (Andy Borowitz, our satirical correspondent, came up with the headline “VATICAN CALLS WHITE SMOKE A FALSE ALARM: ‘WE WERE JUST BURNING DOCUMENTS’ ”) There are documents that may be troubling waiting for Francis in a safe in the sealed Papal apartments, the detritus of the Vatileaks scandal. One wonders if the will be troubled by what he reads there, or if he will shrug.

NYSC ejects corps member from camp over refusal to wear trousers
By SEYE OJO
One of the corps members posted to Ogun State, Miss Tolulope Ekundayo, a graduate of the Lagos State University (LASU), has been decamped by the authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over her refusal to wear trousers at the orientation camp in Ogun State. Tolulope, who reported to the camp in Shagamu on Tuesday, March 5, in her khaki skirts, was said to have been shown the way out of the camp last Friday at about 11:00 pm Tolulope told newsmen in Lagos yesterday that wearing of trousers negated her Christian belief and values.
While saying she did not condemn anybody wearing trousers, she asserted that her resolve not to wear it stemmed from a personal conviction and the fact that she was a missionary. “When I was 10 years old, I had a dream. In the dream, an old man appeared to me and told me to read Deuteronomy 22:5. The old man told me to observe what is there. Then, I have not memorised what the verse says. When I woke up, I went for a Holy Bible.
I opened to Deuteronomy 22:5 and the instruction is that I must not wear clothes pertaining to men. “Before I had the dream, I have never worn trousers and after the dream up till now. I have not worn trousers. I explained everything to the leadership of the NYSC but they said the penalty for not wearing the khaki trouser is decampment. “I faced a panel and I was directed to submit all the kits that were given to me at the camp, which I did. I was also ordered to go to the account unit and refund the N2, 500 transportation and bicycle allowances I was paid on the camp and I did so.
All these happened on the same Friday that I was ordered to leave the camp. “I want to serve my father land and if NYSC will allow me to wear skirt on the camp, I am ready to return to the orientation camp. My khaki and white skirts were made in such a way that they did not give me any problem. I was in Platoon Four and I participated actively in all the exercises from Tuesday to the Friday that I was thrown out of the camp,” Tolulope said.
When contacted on phone yesterday evening, the Head/Press and Public Relations Unit of NYSC in Ogun State, Mrs. Tarkighir Diana, told Daily Sun that Tolulope Ekundayo signed an undertaking during her registration on the camp, which she later disobeyed. She requested for the email address of this reporter so that she could send details of the issue. But the details did not come as at press time. At a press conference addressed by the General Overseer, Faith Revival Apostolic Church (FRAC) and President, Apostle Paul Gospel Outreach (APGO),
Apostle Paul Taiwo Adenuga in Lagos yesterday, he lamented that a lot of Nigerians were being forced to do things they did not want to do, adding: “For anyone who wants to put on the trousers, she should be allowed and for those who feel it is indecent dressing, they should be allowed to put on skirts. According to him, “The issue of dressing in a man’s attire is forbidden to the Christian girls, ladies and women. God created them ‘he and she’ and places a gender distinction between them and forbids them not to be adorned in men’s attires.
“Even in regimented environments such as the Nigeria Police and Nigerian Air Force, women are given option of dressing in shirt as their religious belief permits. In the airline operations, ladies are permitted to dress in skirt.” A lawyer, Mr. Sunday Fatade, described the decampment of Tolulope from the Shagamu NYSC orientation camp as an unconstitutional act. He disclosed that the national headquarters of the NYSC would be officially informed about the decampment of Tolulope Ekundayo in the first instance for her to get justice.
My boyfriend is the father of our baby
By h ChibuokeEze
A major controversy is currently threatening the peace of Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos. A man, Akeem Amodu, and his wife, Awawu Oluyide, are at daggers’ drawn over who the true father of their one-month-old baby girl is. The baby was christened on February 17 but the ceremony wasn’t held in Amodu’s house. Before the date, Awawu had packed her belongings and relocated to the home of her boyfriend with her baby. She claimed her husband was not the true dad of the baby, insisting that she had just returned the baby to the authentic father. But Amodu would have none of that. He is insisting that the baby girl is his daughter.
At Fagbenro and Abeokuta streets, Alagbado, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, where the couple and their parents reside, the controversy rages on, as many wonder who the biological father of the innocent baby girl is. Trouble started when Amodu discovered that his wife had suddenly abandoned their matrimonial home for her boyfriend’s place. He reported the matter to the police and detectives went with him to the home of the wife’s boyfriend.
The officers then directed that Awawu and her baby should relocate to her parents’ house and remain there. They said a DNA test would be conducted on the baby when she’s nine months to determine her paternity. But Amodu said in direct contravention of the police directive, Awawu and her baby were caught on March 1, passing the night in her boyfriend’s house.
When the reporter met with Awawu recently, the young woman didn’t deny being Amodu’s wife but she maintained that her baby’s real father was her boyfriend. She said: “He is just a thief, who wants to claim what is not his. I was once his wife and in 2010, I gave birth to a baby for him but the baby later died. When I was with him, I was always having problems. He never gave me any rest of mind. That was why I packed out of his house and came to stay with my parents. I stayed with my parents for more than a year. “But he and his mother were always coming to beg me in my parents’ house, pleading that I should reconcile with him.
But during that time, I was already having a relationship with another man. I later took in for the other man. Amodu came again and I told him that I was already pregnant for another man. But he kept begging me, saying he would take care of me and the baby and that I could then give the other man his child. He said I should come back to him so that I could give him his own child too. “So, I went back to him. By that time, the man that got me pregnant was not in Lagos. But when he eventually came back, I told Amodu that the man, who owned the pregnancy had returned and wanted to have his baby.
Amodu then asked for a refund of the money he had given me for buying the baby’s things and we got it for him. “But after getting the refund, he came back with policemen a couple of days ago to harass me, claiming that the child is his.” But Amodu insisted he’s the father of the baby girl. His words: “Yes, Awawu once had a baby for me but the baby died after some time. After the death of the baby, we had a quarrel and she moved to her parents’ house. But after some time, she started coming to see my mother, begging her to talk to me so I could take her back.
When my mother asked me to settle with her, I warned my mother that Awawu was a troublesome woman but my mother begged me and I settled with her. She started coming to my place but she didn’t move in with me.” “After sometime, she told me that she had taken in for me. She never told me another man was responsible for her pregnancy. It was in May last year that she told me she had taken in for me. And I told my mother about it. By July last year, my mother took her to a doctor for pregnancy tests and it was confirmed that she was already two months pregnant.
During that time, I was always buying things for her at her parents’ place. Almost everybody knows me in her family house. We had even done some of the traditional wedding rites. “My mother is dead now. But before her death, Awawu once told my mother and I about a man she said was giving her ante-natal care, so we went to see the man to thank him. She also told me of a church where she said she would be attending for the safety of the baby but I refused. I chose a hospital for her instead.
She never told me I wasn’t responsible for the pregnancy all that time. There was even a time she met with a lady in my place. She fought seriously with the lady, accusing her of wanting to snatch her husband. “When the pregnancy was about eight months, she collected N50,000 from me to buy the necessary baby’s things but at some point, I began to smell a rat. The first two times she had a scan, she used my surname for the baby. But on the third occasion, she used her name only. And the delivery was almost due. When I asked her why she did that, she said she forgot. I wondered how she could have forgotten such an important thing.
“One day, I sent money to her as usual but she refused the money. And when I asked her why she did that, she said she didn’t need anything from me any longer. That was when she said I wasn’t the father of the baby. That was about the time she would give birth. Meanwhile, I had already prepared for the christening of the baby. I already bought many things to do the naming ceremony. That was when she refunded the money I had given her for the baby’s things. She then moved to the house of the man she said was responsible for her pregnancy.
She delivered the baby there and the baby was christened there. “But I am sure I’m the father of the baby. That is why I want everyone to know this. The police told us to wait till the baby is nine months old before we go for the DNA but I am worried because she and the baby are with the other man. And if she and the man are sleeping together, the DNA might show the man as the father of the baby. “That is why I want this matter resolved now. I am convinced that the baby is mine and I want my baby.
When we brought the police into the matter, they ordered that she and the baby should remain with her parents until the DNA test was conducted and the authentic father known. But on March 1, she took the baby to the other man’s house and passed the night there. She has been doing that in defiance to the instruction given by the police.”
Anxiety over Chinua Achebe’s health
Fear gripped many Nigerians yesterday over the alleged deteriorating health of Africa’s foremost novelist and author, Prof Chinua Achebe. Against the backdrop of rumours that the literary legend must have passed on following his failing health, Daily Sun contacted a source in the United States where the professor resides.
The source confirmed that although the literary icon was in hospital, he was still very much alive. The source who called Achebe’s family at about 10pm yesterday, said the professor was in the hospital, but that he was not dead. Chinua Achebe was born on November 16, 1930. He is a famous novelist, poet, professor, and critic.
He is best known for his first novel Things Fall Apart (1958), which is the most widely read book in modern African literature.

Another US Shooting, 13 people Shot in D.C. neighborhood
They tumbled to the sidewalk or ran for cover, scraping and kicking fruitlessly at the locked front door of an apartment building amid a spray of gunfire from two cars speeding down North Capitol Street early Monday.
The backdrop was Tyler House, a subsidized-apartment building where violence has visited all too frequently for residents and police. As crime drops across the District and an adjacent neighborhood enjoys a burst of redevelopment, Tyler House remains a stubborn remnant of the area’s history of violence.
In the end, 13 people were hit in the drive-by shooting Monday, nearly all of them grazed or struck in their arms or legs. One victim took a bullet to the lower back and was described as being in critical condition.
Police said they had few answers to explain the shooting: no motive, no arrests, no information about a gun. Mostly, they and other city officials struggled to assure the public that a quickly gentrifying corner of the city is safe.
“I’m saving up my money — because I got a baby on the way — so I can get out of here,” said Tonya Brigdes, 36, one of 284 residents of the eight-story Tyler House. Brigdes, who is nine months pregnant, said she has seen crime ebb and flow over the years. But Monday’s shootings, she said, were a startling reminder of how bad the area can be.
Tyler House is surrounded by late-night clubs that police have long blamed for the violence along this stretch of North Capitol Street and New York Avenue. But it is also just blocks from a neighborhood with a new and stylish name — NoMa (for “north of Massachusetts Avenue”) — that city officials and private developers are trying to transform into a thriving center of expensive condominiums, upscale grocers and trendy restaurants.
That world seemed far away to the victims and witnesses of Monday’s shooting.
“Everybody was screaming,” said Jonique Douglas, 21, who had just come out of a nightclub around the corner and was standing in front of Tyler House when the bullets came. “They shooting like directly at us. . . . It coulda been a bloody mess.”
Douglas said about a dozen people were standing on the sidewalk about 2:10 a.m., minutes after the club closed. A video of the shooting distributed by D.C. police showed cars speeding by and people falling to the ground. Police were looking for two vehicles— one dark, the other a light- silver or gray sedan.
D.C. police scrambled Monday to piece together what happened and who was involved, although they said no one has been arrested. They did not rule out that someone on North Capitol Street had returned fire; one man said he was struck in the ankle while walking on the other side of the street.
The shooting came three years after a similar high-profile shooting in the District; in 2010, nine people were shot, three of them fatally, on South Capitol Street.
Police said they don’t think that Monday’s violence was connected to shootings on the other side of New York Avenue, in front of Big Ben Liquors, that left seven people injuredon consecutive weekends in October, although no arrests have been made in those cases, either. At the time, police suspected a drug dispute involving people at Tyler House.

167m Nigerians to benefit from NIMC e-ID
…As it begins enrolment of Nigerians soon
BY BISI OLALEYE
Following the realisation that modern economy needs a trusted and secured identity system, the Federal Government, through the National Identity Management Commission, appears set to begin total enrolment of the over 167 million Nigerians and legally resident foreigners in the country before the end of second quarter of this year.
Before now, Nigeria had focused on issuing just Identity cards but with the current mandate, NIMC is to issue National Identity Numbers to duly registered persons in the country. NIN is a non-intelligent set of uniquely assigned numbers to individuals upon successful enrolment, which consists of recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of 10 fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature that are used to cross-check existing data in the National Identity Database to confirm there is no previous entry of the same data.
This was disclosed by the Director General of NIMC, Dr. Chris Onyemenam, in Abuja during a facility tour of its National Identity Management System infrastructures of the commission, located at its head office in Abuja and its world-class Data Recovery Centre in another part of the North by select media houses. The Data Recovery Centre was built by Galaxy backbone, another government agency.
According to Onyemenam, the pilot exercise for the scheme kicked off in Abuja on February 23, 2012. However, the pilot exercise has been extended to each state and now to the 774 local government areas and that the nationwide enrolment will commence before the end of June.
“By the end of second quarter of 2013, we expect the actual nationwide enrolment exercise will be launched by the Presidency. From the time it is launched, it is our target to have hit 100 million enrolments in 30 months after the enrolment, the NINs would be issued. “This will be followed by the issuance of cards that are Chip and PIN based, designed with more than 18 security features embedded, making it difficult for the cards to be cloned by fraudsters.”
In his statistics presentation, Director Information Technology/ Database, Aliyu Aziz, described the e-ID as having 100 per cent poly carbonated card, seven layers fused without adhesives, a life span of 10 years that is ISO/IEC 7816,ICAO 9303-compliant. Stressing that the e-ID became imperative because government discovered that over 75 per cent of identity documents were fake as well as insecurity, reaching its peak in the country, including bombings and kidnappings.
Adding that the card issuance was funded 100 per cent by the government, Aziz revealed that companies like NXP, Crypto-vision, Neuro-technologies, S-P-S Smart packaging solution and Austria cards were the card technology partners.
NIMC intends to harmonize very ID card irrespective of the organization or agency by issuing unique identification number for every citizen just like the Social Insurance Security number in Europe. Similarly, ID cards like driver’s licence, SIM registration, Voters registration card, Health insurance cards and National Pension Commission cards (PENCOM) would be combined into one e-ID card.
In order for the harmonization to be executed properly, the Commission disclosed that NIMC had started to recruit graduates ,who will be trained extensively in order to avoid mediocrity on the job.
Already over 158,000 graduates had applied for the 1,750 available jobs. Aziz noted that the benefits of the scheme include becoming a trusted means of ID, improved physical security, improved human rights, improved governance and service delivery.
Jonathan sacks Demuren as DG, NCCA
UCHE USIM
President Goodluck Jonathan, has approved the removal of Dr. Harold Olusegun Demuren from office as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviuation Authority (NCAA) with effect from today, March 12.
The two paragraph statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media, to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi, said Demuren’s removal is due to his “unsatisfactory response to the numerous concerns of stakeholders in the aviation sector.”
The statement added that the President wishes him well in his future endeavours. Demuren has been directed to hand over to the most senior official in the authority, who will be in an acting capacity. His sudden disengagement yesterday took staff of the authority by surprise as most of them received the news late in the evening.
Demuren, who was appointed in 2007 after series of air crashes jolted the nation, was seen as the best thing to have happened to the aviation sector.
During his tenure, the sector was stabilized and safety level improved. The culmination of his success led to award of US-FAA Category 1 status in 2010. However, the National Assembly, especially the Senate committee on Aviation had heavily came down on Demuren and indicted him in the Dana crash of June 3, 2012 saying there were various anomalies in the regulatory procedures.
What seem to have sealed Demuren’s fate was the recent restoration of Dana’s Air Operating Licence (AOC).
Anxiety in Bayelsa community over landslide
From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa
Saturday March 2, 2013 was to be a routine in Okoroba, Kolokuma/ Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State but fate had a different plan in the offing.
In a twinkle of an eye, eight houses were nearly swallowed up in a landslide which took the community back to 2009, when a major catastrophe swallowed up several houses and wreaked havoc.
After the 2009 disaster, the community had written a letter to the state and federal pleading they should come to their aid before the community goes into extinction. The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the strength of the community’s pleas intervened and awarded a contract for the shoreline protection of the community.
The project has however, not been completed before the latest landslide which the community is now blaming on the non-completion of the project. According to investigations, the people of Okoroba would have lost livesif not for the early farming that took people living in the affected houses from their homes. The victims said it was the handiwork of God that made them escape from the disaster.
Speaking through the paramount ruler HRH Mac-Carthy Macpherson said the spirit of hard work and early morning fishing among the indigenes of the community was responsible for victims of the landslide to be alive.
“Many of the residents of affected houses were on the river fishing in the early hours, while others have started cooking when they heard a loud sound and their houses were sinking before their eyes”, he said. The monarch said some close neighbors whose houses were not affected moved in and engaged in rescue operation for the victims to salvage some of their property.
The disaster which threw the community into a sober mood drew the ire of community youths and some elders in the community. While the community youths were mobilizing to invade the company handling the project, the elders had concluded plans to drag it to court.
However after consultation with critical stakeholders of the community, Mac- Carthy Macpherson decided to intervene and appeal to the community people to sheath their swords. Reliable sources at the meeting said the Monarch was able to resolve the outstanding issues and persuaded those who wanted to go to court to shelve the plan.
He was noted to have said though the landslide disaster that hit the community was a natural disaster that had occurred few years ago, the legal action by some members of the community against the contracting firm on the shore protection project would be withdrawn to allow quick work to stop further landslide incidents.
The Project Manager of the Zement&Zement, Mr.Adedoyin Kayode, explained that the company had mobilized to site with over 38 containers of materials, huge dumps of sands and stones for the shoreline protection project, According to him the legal hurdle placed before the company had delayed the project and efforts had been on since to overcome the hurdle.
The Environmental Rights Action (ERA) executive director, Revd Nimimo Bassey in his reaction to the incident urged the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Bayelsa State government to provide urgent assistance to victims of the landslide. He stated that the state government ought to take steps to address the needs of those affected by the landslide.
